
Europe: railway share of total passenger transport by land in 2018, by country
This statistic compares the percentage of total land travel that was made by railway in the 28 European member states and other selected countries in 2018. Switzerland was the country with the highest share of total passenger-kilometers travelled by train, at 16.5 percent. Following, Austria, the Netherlands, and France recorded a share above ten percent of total passenger-kilometers being travelled by train. In that year, the EU-28 train transport average amounted to 7.9 percent of total passenger-kilometers.
