Car sales by brand in Canada 2020-2021

Ford has been the best-selling car brand in Canada for over a decade now, with sales rebounding in 2021, after the drop in demand due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Other brands also recorded an increase in sales, such as second-in-the-ranking Toyota.

Ford's F-Series remains Canada's best-selling light vehicle in Q4 2021

  Quite remarkably, Ford’s F-Series was Canada’s best-selling light vehicle for more than 55 consecutive years, selling close to 28,000 units in the fourth quarter of 2021. Ford's main competitor Toyota faired better outside the Canadian market, being one of the world's most valuable car brands in 2021.

Shifting consumer demand

  Carmakers need to react to North America's waning demand for passenger car models. In terms of model sales, compact utility light trucks and large pickups represent the most successful segments in Canada. Growing demand in these segments means food for thought for carmakers, particularly those with a focus on sedans in their product line-up, such as Ford.
