Retail space of DIY retailers in Norway 2003-2015 This statistic shows the total retail space of so-called ‘do-it-yourself’ (DIY) supply shops in Norway from 2003 to 2015. In 2003, Norwegian DIY retail stores had a total retail area of roughly 777,000 square meters. In 2015, this figure had increased by more than one quarter to roughly 1.03 million square meters. From 2003 to 2011, there was a constant growth of total available space for the retail sale of DIY goods in Norway. The following two years recorded a decrease, from roughly 1.06 million square meters in 2011 to 985,510 square meters in 2013. Retail space of one million square meters was exceeded again in 2014.
The leading retailer of DIY goods in Norway based on retail space in 2015 was Byggmax with roughly 240,000 square meters of retail space. Maxbo ranked second with 165,750 square meters, ahead of Byggmakker which sold DIY goods on a total of 145,000 square meters in 2015. Jernia, which is the leading DIY retailer in Norway based on number of stores, had retail space of 92,570 square meters in the same year.
