In 2022, 1,372 events rated on the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) occurred in France. This value increased since 2010, with a drop in 2020. The events involving the exposure to ionizing radiations included a lack of safety measures in basic nuclear installations, insufficient protection in small-scale nuclear activities, such as research in the medical and industrial sector, and the transportation of radioactive material.

* The International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) is a tool developed by the International Atomic Energy Agency. It is supposed to facilitate communication and understanding of events related to ionizing radiation. INES is a logarithmic, seven-step scale. Events are classified on the seven-level scale: Levels 1–3 are called "incidents" and Levels 4–7, "accidents". The scale is designed so that the severity of an event is about ten times greater for each increase in level on the scale. INES scale: 1 = anomaly, 2 = incident, 3 = serious incident, 4 = accident with local consequences, 5 = accidents with wider consequences; 6 = serious accident, 7 = major accident.
