Cost of pet ownership in Canada
Keeping pets can be time consuming and costly. Therefore, it is not surprising that 39 percent of Canadians choose not to own any type of pet. The cost of caring for a puppy reaches almost 3,700 Canadian dollars on average in the first year of ownership. This figure includes expenses such as health insurance, food and obedience classes. For kitten owners, total costs reach on average around 2,350 Canadian dollars. Whilst annual costs are slightly reduced when caring for fully grown cats or dogs, it is still a hefty additional expense considering the lifespan of the animals.
