UK: projection of electricity generation from CCS 2040

Under the United Kingdom's Net Zero Strategy scenario, electricity generation from carbon capture and storage in the UK is expected to remain at zero through 2040. This was a departure from projections made in 2019, where the UK expected to generate some five terawatt hours worth of electricity from carbon capture and storage by 2040.

Projected data is taken from the reference scenario, which is based on central estimates of economic growth and fossil fuel prices and contains all agreed policies where decisions on policy design are sufficiently advanced to allow robust estimates of impact (i.e. including "planned" policies).

The government published its Net Zero Strategy on 19 October 2021. Main changes in the Net Zero Strategy Baseline, when compared to previous reference scenarios, can be found on the Net Zero Strategy report, pages 312-313.
