Forecast of unemployment rate in the Netherlands 2013-2021

After reaching historic low levels of unemployment in the months before the coronavirus pandemic, the unemployment rate in the Netherlands is forecast to nearly double due to COVID-19. This according to predictions made in March 2020. The abrupt decline in economic activity and the mandatory closure of companies is believed to have a negative impact on overall employment. The Netherlands was already implementing several employment protection measures, especially in the shape of worktime reduction benefits and income support for self-employed.
