Top end penetration rate of contactless transactions CEE 2015

This statistic presents the maximum extent for contactless transactions penetration rate in selected countries of the Central and Eastern European region as of the 2nd quarter 2015. In that time, contactless transactions (using NFC: near-field-communication to transfer money at POS terminals) penetration rate was at the maximum level of nine percent in Croatia, to 50 percent in Hungary, Poland and Slovakia and over 50 percent in Czech Republic.

The source provides additional information on the methodology: "Throughout the first semester of 2015 the participants to the ERPB Working Group on mobile and card based contactless proximity payments gathered and analysed information related to these payments. A dedicated survey amongst the participants of the Working Group was organised to collect this information. In total 57 responses to the survey have been received, representing 25 countries both from the demand and the supply side."
