In 2018, chains and franchising stores dominated the children’s apparel market in Italy, with a share of 50 percent in terms of sales. Large-scale retailing came second, with a market share of 30 percent of the total domestic consumption, which amounted to 4.1 billion euros.

Increasing production and turnover

With reference to the value of production, a variable which attempts to quantify the production activity carried out in Italy, was estimated to grow by around one percent, reaching a value of 978 million euros in 2018. This one percent increase in production value was estimated, together with the contribution of exports, to result in an increase in turnover.

Looking abroad

Looking at the performance across borders, the average annual growth of exports of junior fashion from Italy was estimated to increase by 6.5 percent in 2018, reaching a value of 1.2 billion euros. Therefore, exports were estimated to contribute 40 percent of the sector's turnover, thus gaining more than one percentage point compared to 2017.
