Number of couples with children in 2020, by region
Unsurprisingly, the majority of couples with children live in the most populated regions of the country. As of 2020, Lombardy was the Italian region with the largest number of couples with children. More specifically, 686 thousand couples in Lombardy had one child, 575 thousand had two children and 159 thousand couples had at least three children. Lombardy also ranked first in Italy for number of families and number of cohabitees.
