Largest Swiss banks in 2017, by assets Switzerland’s financial sector is one of the countries cornerstones of its economy. As of the end of 2017, there were 253 active banks in Switzerland, with almost 2.7 thousand branches. In the same year, UBS Group AG was the leading Swiss bank with over 915 billion Swiss Francs in assets.
UBS Group AG

Founded in 1862, UBS Group AG is a multinational investment bank with co-headquarters in Zürich and Basel. With a strong reputation for bank-client confidentiality the bank has established itself in the Americas, EMEA and the Asia Pacific regions. As of 2017 UBS was the fifteenth largest bank in Europe for total assets, had market capitalization of over 50 billion euros (May 2018) and as of 2019, saw its brand value increase by almost two billion U.S. dollars from the previous year.

Credit Suisse Group

  As the second largest bank in Switzerland, Credit Suisse follows a similar operating pattern to UBS, with its main business revenues coming through investment banking, private banking and asset management. In 2018, Credit Suisse had the highest market penetration rate for large corporations in Switzerland.
