Crude oil imports to Italy from former USSR countries 1990-2021
In 2021, Italy imported over 20 million tons of crude oil from former Soviet Union countries, namely Azerbaijan, Russia, and Kazakhstan. The volume of crude oil imports to Italy from this region experienced a sharp increase after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Starting at 6.2 million tons as of 1990, the import volume peaked at 25.6 million tons in 2010. In 2021, over 65 percent of this volume came from Azerbaijan, which was the leading importer of crude oil to Italy.
