Number of new foreign arrivals with trainee visa in Japan 2012-2018

In 2018, approximately 13.4 thousand new arrivals in Japan were foreign nationals with a "trainee" visa, a decrease from almost 18 thousand new arrivals in 2012. The "trainee" visa does not cover people that are part of the technical intern training program, for which separate visa categories exist.
