Best-selling PEV models in Europe YTD 2022

Tesla’s Model Y was the best-selling electric car in Europe as of September 2022, beating the Tesla Model 3 to second place. The Fiat 500 electric, Volkswagen's ID.4, and Skoda Enyaq iV rounded off the top five.

European brands are playing catch-up

Europe's automakers seem to have taken on the challenge for the title of the most successful electric car brand on home soil. This trend was also reflected in the European electric vehicle fleet. European brands continue to face stiff competition from Tesla, and several Chinese automakers are expected to tap into the market in 2022.

Adoption rates in European electric car markets

Car intenders in Europe's largest markets were slow to adopt electric vehicle models, but Germany put itself in pole position in 2020 with record electric car sales of just under 390,000 units. Compared to overall registrations, the share of plug-in electric vehicles was particularly high in Norway. Europe became the leading market for plug-in electric vehicle sales in 2020.
