Brazil: number of Carnival attendees in Rio de Janeiro 2020, by origin
The city of Rio de Janeiro is known as the worldwide capital of Carnival. In 2020, it was estimated that the "marvelous city" would host Carnival events to which around seven million people would attend. Locals were expected to make up the majority of attendees, with five million, whereas two million would be tourists. Street block parades, along with the Sambódromo parade, are the main attractions during Carnival season in Rio.
