谈到市面价值超过十亿美元的私营独角兽公司，美国毫无争议的坐在第一把交椅。然而其龙头老大的地位越来越受到其他国家的威胁，尤其是中国。根据CB Insights的调查结果，全球共215家独角兽公司当中有108家均来自美国。可是美国新增独角兽公司的实力却明显稀薄。
2013年间世界上百分之七十五的新增独角兽公司都诞生于美国，尽管其增长速度保持，到2017年美国所占的市场份额却降到了百分之四十一。相反中国在全球的市场份额却丛零增长到了百分之三十六。尽管全球范围内独角兽公司的数量在此期间保持相对稳定，中国的快速的增长势头却给美国造成了很大压力。
