Single women without children held as much wealth on average as single men in the United States in 2022, according to an analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data by Pew Research Center. In 2022, a typical unmarried woman without children had $87,200, while an unmarried man had $82,100. By contrast, the median wealth of households headed by unmarried women with kids was just $10,700.
Even among these groups, however, the pay gap emerges with age. For unmarried men aged 65 and older, the median wealth is $218,900, compared to $173,500 for unmarried women aged 65 and older without children. Households headed by married adults unsurprisingly had more wealth than households with single adults.
