Equine cases of Eastern equine encephalitis in the U.S. 2008-2021
In 2021, there were a total of 112 cases of Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE) among horses in the United States. Eastern equine encephalitis is a mosquito-transmitted infection that causes neurological problems in horses. The disease can also be transmitted to humans through the bite of an infected mosquito.
