Number of neuroinvasive U.S. Eastern equine encephalitis cases from 2012 to 2021
In 2021, there were five cases of Eastern equine encephalitis virus (EEEV) in the United States. EEEV is transmitted from horses to humans through infected mosquitoes. It is a viral infection and there are currently no vaccines to prevent EEEV infection.
