Volume of livestock products in Gujarat India 2017, by type
The western state of Gujarat produced about 12.7 million metric tons of milk within the livestock products sector in fiscal year 2017. It was home to Amul, one of the largest milk producers and retailers in the world. In comparison, the state produced only 33 thousand metric tons of meat, indicating a higher preference for fish. In addition, about 1.7 billion eggs were produced in the state in the same time period. India's meat production amounted to over 165 million metric tons during the measured time period.
