Net import value of fuel oil to Hong Kong 2013-2022
In 2022, net imports of fuel oil into Hong Kong were valued at around 26.7 billion Hong Kong dollars. While this was an increase in comparison to the previous year, this figure represents a drop from the peak of over 35 billion Hong Kong dollars back in 2013.
Oil product imports
Hong Kong relies heavily on external energy resources to meet its energy demand because of a lack of local fossil resources and alternative energy development. The majority of imported energy commodities are oil products, which accounted for over 77 percent of all energy commodities imported in 2021. Gas oil, diesel oil, and naphtha are the oil products with the highest import volume.
Fuel oil
Though imported the least, unleaded petrol costs the most of all imported oil products, while fuel oil was among the cheapest. Singapore was the leading supplier of the fuel oil to Hong Kong with an annual import volume of around 2.3 gigaliters in 2022, followed by Malaysia that supplied around two gigaliters.
