Because of the effects of the COVID-19 coronavirus, global chemical production declined by 3.3 percent in March 2020 and a further 1.3 percent in April 2020. By August 2020, production increased by 2.7 percent compared to the previous month. Although chemicals production increased in the Former Soviet Union in January through March 2020, until it decreased by a modest 0.1 percent in April and May 2020, production decreased in most world regions during that timeframe. Among all of the world's regions, Asia Pacific's March decrease was the largest, at 5.4 percent.
