Public opinion on the Confederate flag at NASCAR events in the U.S. 2020, by age

The Confederate States of America used several flags during its existence from 1861 to 1865. After the end of the American Civil War, these flags were banned throughout the reconstruction period, but the personal and official use of flags inspired by the Confederation continues, not without controversy due to its association with racism and white supremacy. Following increasing pressure from the public in 2020, NASCAR prohibited the display of these flags at all NASCAR events. During a June 2020 survey in the United States, 18 percent of respondents aged between 18 and 34 stated that fans should be allowed to express themselves and display confederate flags at NASCAR events.
