Impact of COVID-19 on projected current account balance in Tunisia 2020-2021
As of June 2020, the current account deficit in Tunisia was projected to deteriorate, after the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The deficit in 2020 was reviewed to 12.2 percent of the GDP, considering a worst-case scenario, where the pandemic persists to the end of the same year. Under the same assumption, the deficit was revised to 11.2 percent of the GDP in 2021. Before the outbreak, the current account deficit was expected at 9.9 percent of the GDP and 8.4 percent of the GDP as of 2020 and 2021, respectively.
