As of September 2020, a total of 51 cases of entertainment-related Important Intangible Cultural Assets were recorded in Japan, of which 37 cases were certified to individuals. 55 cases were selected for their exceptional craft skills. The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) designates Important Intangible Cultural Assets among various types of art and culture in Japan, such as performing art, music, and craftmanship, for their significance to the Japanese culture.
