Market value of the music industry in Italy H1 2019-H1 2021, by sector
In the first half of 2021, subscriptions to audio streaming services generated the highest income in the music industry in Italy. This sector's profit amounted to 67 million euros, a significant increase compared to the first half of 2019 when it reached 36 million euros. On the other hand, the physical market's value remarkably decreased. Between the first half of 2019 and the first half of 2020, the market value of CDs roughly halved, going down from 14.6 million euros to seven million euros, while the income of vinyl records dropped by 2.6 million. In this respect, it is reasonable to think that the coronavirus pandemic also had an impact on the physical market as record shops had to close during the lockdown in Italy between March and May 2020. The market slightly recovered in 2021 to ten million euros in CD sales.
