Femicides in Brazil: perpetrator relationship 2021

Most femicides registered in five Brazilian states in 2021 were committed by partners or former partners of the victims. Of 409 women killed on account of their gender in São Paulo, Pernambuco, Bahia, Rio de Janeiro, and Ceará, 65 percent were murdered by their current or former husband, boyfriend or partner. Unknown persons to the victim accounted for five percent of femicides.
