Primary energy demand in Africa 2018, by source
As of 2018, biomass constituted nearly a half of the total primary energy demand in Africa. Biomass was indeed the predominant energy source on the continent, accounting for 45 percent of the demand. This was followed by oil and natural gas, as these fossil fuels represented, respectively, 23 percent and 16 percent of Africa's primary energy demand.
