French opinion on the republican nature of the principle of secularism 2020, by age
While almost four out of five French people consider secularism to be inherent to France's national identity, there seem to be slightly fewer of them (with the exception of people over 65) who think it is an essential republican principle. Indeed, when surveyed in 2020, only 60 percent of 25-34 year olds agreed with this idea, compared to nearly 85 percent of older people. This proportion rose to 65 percent among 18-24 year olds, and to almost 70 percent among 35-49 year olds.
