Number of VC equity deals completed by start-ups in Africa 2020, by country
In 2020, the African country where the highest number of venture capital (VC) equity funding deals were completed was Egypt. A total of approximately 86 VC equity deals were completed by startups in Egypt, followed by the 72 equity deals completed by startups in South Africa. The third place ranking is completed by Nigeria, wherein tech and digital startups closed a total of 71 VC equity deals. Conversely, startups in Nigeria received the highest value of equity funding in Africa in 2020, which amounted to approximately 307 million U.S. dollars.
