Number of subscriptions to streaming on demand services in Africa 2021

Among the most popular video streaming services, Netflix has in Africa the largest number of subscriptions. By the end of 2021, it was estimated to reach 2.6 million subscribers. MultiChoice Showmax followed with some 860 thousand subscriptions. MultiChoice Showmax is part of the MultiChoice Group, a South-African company, and provides the service in over 13 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa, while the American company is present in all 54 African countries. In 2020, MultiChoice Group had about 20 million users in Africa.
Disney+, instead, will be launched in Africa in June 2022 and was estimated to grow quickly, reaching over two million subscriptions by the end of 2026.
