Liz Truss will become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom after winning 57.4 percent of the vote in the final round of the Conservative Party leadership contest. The leadership contest began in July following the resignation of Boris Johnson, and was followed by 357 Conservative MPs voting in five ballot rounds to reduce the leadership contest from eight candidates to two. The remaining two candidates; Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak, faced off in a final round where over 141,000 Conservative Party members were able to vote for their next leader, who would also become Prime Minister of the UK. Truss won 81,236 votes to Sunak's 60,399, and will inherit a variety of problems as leader of the country.
