Number of IDPs worldwide 2012-2021, by region
The number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the world has increased steadily over the past ten years, reaching more than 50 million in 2021.While the highest number of these are found in the Middle East and North Africa, there has been a significant increase in the number of IDPs in Sub-Saharan Africa since 2019, especially in the Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes Region. Syria was the country in the world with the highest number of IDPs in 2021.
