Environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) initiatives are weighted differently with varying levels of perceived importance depending on individual factors such as the firm's industry. With reference to financial firms in Latin America, governance received the highest overall average weight with roughly 70 percent of survey respondents noting the need to take CSR strategy, management, and shareholders into consideration. From the remaining categories, the highest individual sub-factor noted by respondents was human rights, with 61 percent of financial firms stating its importance.

A cross-country survey was conducted within Latin America. The survey group was inclusive of financial experts, fiduciaries/trustees, stockbrokers, pension funds, and mutual funds. Questionnaires were sent to 80 separate institutions. The response rate of each firm varies per question.
