From 2021 to 2023, the expectations for firms to become carbon neutral by 2030 have varied. In 2021, 30 percent of European firms expected to become carbon neutral. However, this number decreased in the following year. Various external factors such as war and inflation can affect the degree to which a firm can maintain its environmental, social, and corporate governance (ESG) initiatives and policies. Due to the varying abilities of firms to prioritize ESG, the capability of reaching national ESG goals or internal firm objectives can be prolonged.
