Breakdown of firms with the highest land acquisition volume in China, by ownership
In 2022, state-owned enterprises accounted for more than 80 percent of the 100 leading companies acquiring land in China. Many of the state-owned enterprises acquiring the land were municipal investment groups set up by the local governments. The debt situation of the municipal investment groups and local governments is a long-term risk to the Chinese economy.
