Leading app categories among U.S. smartphone users 2022
According to a survey of mobile smartphone users conducted in December 2022 in the United States, social media apps were the most popular type, with around six in 10 respondents reporting engaging with this app category. Gaming apps ranked second, with half of respondents reporting playing video games on their mobile phones. Weather apps were used by around 43 percent of respondents, while around 41 percent of respondents reported using video and streaming apps.
