The underarm or armpit is one of the most consistently warm areas on the body. Deodorant, classified as cosmetics and regulated by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), have been designed to prevent odors from these particular sweat glands. The top selling deodorant brand in the United States in 2016 was Degree Men which generated about 169 million U.S. dollars and accounted for six percent of all deodorant brand sales.

Deodorants come in many forms and range in popularity depending on the country or region. For instance, aerosol sprays, creams and roll-on forms are very popular among Europeans whereas solid or gel forms are the desired forms in the United States and Canada.

The Degree brand is owned by the Anglo-Dutch multinational consumer goods company: Unilever. In 2015, Unilever was the second leading deodorant vendor in the United States; generating sales of about 722 million U.S. dollars.
