This statistic depicts the results of a quantitative online survey conducted by BAV Consulting from February 22 to March 6, 2013. American adults were polled about their perception on the amount of food wasted by the country as a whole versus personal food waste. The respondents stated on average to believe that 41 percent of total U.S. food production goes to waste. In comparison, the survey respondents indicated on average to believe that they only throw away 18 percent of the food.
