Children participating in golf in England 2010-2018

The share of children who play golf, putting or pitch and putt on a regular basis in England is slightly decreasing. While in 2014, around 7.4 percent of 11 to 15 year olds had been golfing in the past four weeks of being surveyed, it was less than half as of 2018, when only 3.6 percent confirmed this. The surveys is conducted by Sport England, the national sports governing body of England on an annual basis to determine children’s sport participation and preferences.

Golf in England

Golf is a popular sport in the United Kingdom (UK). England has the highest share of registered golf players in Europe as well as the highest share of golf courses in Europe. In 2018, approximately 945,700 people in England played golf as regular as twice per month.

Other sports for kids

Other than golf, children from the age of 5 to 10 tend to favor sports such as swimming, football, cycling, hiking and gymnastics. Kids aged 11 to 15 show the same trend, allthough at this age group football is by far the favorite as compared to swimming in the previous group.
