Golf participation England 2016-2021

The number of people playing golf in England holds rather steady, standing at 763,000 adults who play as regular as twice per month. As for the share of children playing golf, there is a little bit more of a decline, especially in 2017/18, where 4.2 percent of 5-10 year old and 3.6 percent of 11-15 year old kids play on a monthly basis, which are the lowest proportions in the past eight years.

Golf courses

England provides the biggest share out of all the golf courses in Europe. Out of 6,859 golf courses in Europe in 2018, England hosted a total of 1,888. Taking a look at other countries, Germany had the second most with 730, followed by France, Scotland and Sweden.

Registered golf players

In England 84 percent of registered golf players are adult male, 13 percent adult female and 3 percent are registered as juniors. In 2017, Scotland and Wales show almost the same picture with 79 and 80 percent of registered players being adult males. The total number of registered golf players in England stands at 642,240 as of 2018.
