Number of overseas visitors to National Museums Liverpool in England 2011-2022
The number of overseas visitors to the institutions part of the National Museums Liverpool in England declined sharply in 2020/2021 over the previous fiscal year due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. From March 2020 onwards, museums, galleries, and cultural institutions in the country had to close for long periods, as the government enacted emergency measures to limit the spread of the virus. Meanwhile, travel restrictions introduced during the health crisis hit international tourism hard. As a result of such circumstances, the National Museums Liverpool recorded just two thousand overseas visits between April 2020 and March 2021, after welcoming 645 thousand overseas visitors in 2019/2020. The number of visitors increased in 2021/2022 but did not reach pre-pandemic levels.
