In the case of the underlying report, the threshold minimum defined for these figures was at least one million U.S. dollars in financial assets. Data showed that the population of high-net worth individuals increased in time for all of the leading countries listed in the ranking. Germany topped the ranking across the years. There were approximately 1.28 million high net worth individuals living in that country as of 2016, compared to 1.13 million in 2013. The increase for the United Kingdom was also substantial between 2013 (527 thousand individuals) and 2016 (568 thousand individuals); the post-Brexit future might witness a different trend in the country. The growth in numbers of HNWI in France was also notable, from 472 thousand in 2013 to 579 thousand in 2016.
