This statistic shows the trend in the retail sales volume of clothing in Great Britain split by large and small retail businesses from 2008 to 2022. Over the period, sales of clothing by large retailers have increased gradually until 2019. Sales of clothing in small stores have shown a more varying trend.
In 2020, sales volume in both sizes of businesses decreased significantly and dropped to an index value of 76.1 in large businesses and 63.1 in small businesses. Sales for large stores began to recover in 2021, reaching an index value of 96.5 in 2022. On the other hand, the sales volume of small stores continued decreasing in 2021, before turning around and almost doubling to an index value of 111.6 in 2022, surpassing that of large businesses.

* Non-Seasonally adjusted, chained volume of sales, measured using the Retail Sales Index (RSI). Index 2019 = 100 (reference period). Refers to retail sales made in predominantly non-food stores selling clothing, textiles, footwear and/or leather goods.
Large businesses are defined by the source as "large retailers employing 100 people or more and those with annual turnover of greater than 60 million GBP who employ 10 to 99 people." Small businesses are those employing less than 100 people with a turnover lower than 60 million GBP.
