As of April 2017, video game publisher Riot Games were ranked second with 2.32 million subscribers on the live streaming video platform. Gaming commentator Jordan Maron, also known as captainsparklez, was ranked eleventh, with almost 1.27 million subscribers. First ranked channel, syndicate, owned by British YouTuber Tom Cassell, was the first channel to reach one million followers on Twitch.

In May 2015, Twitch reached 53 percent of video gaming content viewers worldwide, second only to market leader YouTube. However, the source found that Twitch was able to monetize its content better as the platform accounted for 43 percent of gaming content video revenues worldwide, including advertising, donations and subscriptions.
In August 2014, Twitch was acquired by Amazon for 970 million U.S. dollars. It was the company’s second most expensive acquisition of all time.
