Number of unemployed persons in Belgium 2008-2019, by region

From 2008 to 2019, the number of unemployed people in Belgium varied from region to another. Over this period, unemployment decreased in Belgium. In 2019, the number of unemployed people in the Brussels-Capital Region decreased to about 67 thousand people. The number of unemployed people fell to 107 thousand in the Walloon Region and to 98 thousand in Flanders.

* Statistics Belgium defines an unemployed person according to the criteria of the International Labour Organization. An employed person is a person aged 15 years or older who during the reference week was without a job, a person who was available for a job and started work within 2 weeks after the reference week, or a person who was actively looking for a job during the previous 4 weeks, including the reference week.

Belgium is divided into 3 regions: the Flemish Region, the Brussels-Capital Region and the Walloon Region. Each region has its own Regional Parliament and a Regional Government.
