The Los Angeles Dodgers not only have the top player salary in the league, but also have the highest team payroll amongst all sports teams. During the 2014/2015 season, the LA-based team spent more than 270 million U.S. dollars on player salaries, while the Boston Red Sox, for example, spent about 187 million U.S. dollars. Along with the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Boston Red Sox, Detroit Tigers and the New York Yankees have the highest payrolls in the league. In 2016, the New York Yankees had the highest opening day payrolls in the league – 224.85 million U.S. dollars.
