Since 2000, the number of hospital beds in Czechia has generally declined. There were approximately 69.5 thousand beds in Czechia in 2020, a slight decrease from the preceding year.

Healthcare workers in Czechia

The number of healthcare beds in Czechia has decreased since 2000, although the number of personnel working has increased. The number of hospital workers in Czechia in the period 2005 to 2018 has increased by approximately 22 thousand. In addition, the number of practicing nurses amounted to almost 82.7 thousand in 2020 in Czechia, an increase of around seven thousand since the year 2000.

Czechia’s expenditure on healthcare was 9.1 percent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2020. In comparison to other European countries, Czechia ranked quite low on the share of GDP spent on health care. Germany had the highest share of expenditure on health, spending 12.8 percent of its GDP in this year.
