Number of dairy farms in Denmark 2005-2021
In 2021, there were more than 31 thousand farms in Denmark in total. Many farms produced crops, but a large share had livestock. Especially meat, fur and dairy products are the main agricultural items exported from Denmark. Since 2005, the number of dairy farms in Denmark decreased. While there were nearly 6.3 thousand dairy farms in that year, the number declined to nearly 2.6 thousand farms in 2021.
Cows
The number of cows on farms fluctuated only slightly in recent years, although the number of dairy farms decreased. As of 2021, there were almost 643 thousand cows registered on farms in Denmark. Most of these were dairy cows, as the number amounted to approximately 564 thousand in this year.

Arla Foods amba produces and sells dairy products. It offers milk, milk-based products, cheese, yoghurt, butter etc. The Danish company sells its products primarily under the Arla, Lurpak, Castello and Puck brands. In 2020, Arla generated a revenue of roughly one billion euros in Denmark.
