As of a November 2022 ranking of the ten leading United States mining companies based on market capitalization, Freeport McMoRan, headquartered in Arizona, was the largest U.S. mining company based on market cap. As of that time, Freeport McMoRan had a market capitalization of some 54.11 billion U.S. dollars. Southern Copper Corp was second in this ranking, with a market cap of nearly 46 billion U.S. dollars at that time.
